Coinciding with the second week of the CSW, Women's Day will be observed at UN Headquarters on 6 March in Conference Room 2. A high-profile event with women leaders from the private sector, government, academia and politics is being planned. The Secretary-General is expected to speak, along with one or two high-level government speakers, followed by a panel discussion.

The 52nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) (http://www.un.org/womenwatch/daw/csw/52sess.html ) will be held in New York from 25 February to 7 March, in Conference Room 2. The theme of the session is "Financing for gender equality and the empowerment of women". The emerging theme will be "Gender perspectives on climate change" and that the Commission will also review the implementation of the recommendations it adopted in 2004 on women's participation in conflict resolution,
prevention and peacebuilding.
