Rumors, Rumors, Rumors

The Wall Street Journal is reporting rumors. Not unusual for that newspaper, but here is what they say:

1. Some of Sen. Hillary Clinton's advisors are urging her to pull out of the race if she loses big in New Hampshire.

2. Democratic Senators who refused to endorse a candidate are flocking to Sen. Obama to talk about endorsements.

3. Clinton's financial backers are growing skeptical as "contributions have begun to slacken."

4. A New Hampshire win could give Sen. Obama the labor backing in Nevada tomorrow that could put him over the top in that labor-led primary (Jan. 19) race, which could counter Sen. Clinton's strong union support up to this point.

5. Obama's position in some South Carolina polls (Democratic primary set for Jan. 26) has jumped to double digits.

6. The Clinton campaign is internally in shambles and some top strategists are being blamed for the whole "experience" campaign slogan.

But these are rumors. Sen. Clinton needs to stay in the race and fight for this nomination. Whatever you think of her candidacy, she has a real chance to win. Never let 'em see you sweat.

I mean no disrepect to the writer, as against the Wall Street Journal, which deserves all the disrepect it can get, but the Journal is analyzing the battle for the presidency the way that the bookies analyze horse races.

Breaking the hegemony of the far right is the issue for the people who will vote for the democrats. electing a congress and a president who will enact HR 676, the Conyers Bill, or Medicaire for All, is the issue for the people who will vote for the Democrats. Ending the Iraq occupation and ending also the militarism that has run amok under Bush is the issue for the people who will vote for the Democrats. Enacting the Employee Free Choice Act and strentgthening the labor movement in the U.S. to protect jobs and raise living standards is the issue for the people who will vote for the Democrats. Reversing the Bush administration's assault on civil rights and civil liberties is the the issue for the people who will vote for the Democrats.
Whomever the Democrats nominate for President, he or she must advance those issues if the election is to result in a people's victory
