Book Review/Summer Reading: Bill Moyers and Two Conservatives' Books

by Eric Green

Republican/Conservative Books Rally Faithful to Court Working Class

Bill Moyers, on his Sunday night PBS television show, interviewed former California Congressman and Republican conservative Mickey Edward and Ross Douthat, Editor at Atlantic Monthly on their recent books which describe and then urge Republicans to reach out and court working class voters. Both agree that the Republican party of the past 8 years; and, actually over the last 20 plus years is finished. And, they both agreed that the country is in for years of Democratic Party rule. Douthat stated, however, it doesn't seem they have an agenda like the one which brought in the Reagan revolution of the 1980s. He implied that that agenda set the stage for years of Reagan agenda victories. He said that this could mean a quick exit for the Democrats in the White House, in just 4 years.

Douthat's book's title actually states the case, "Grand New Party: How Republicans Can Win the Working Class and Save the American Dream," Random House. The Mickey Edwards book is, "The American Congress." Wadsworth Pub Co.

I have not read these books; and, we invite anyone who has to please send in your reviews.
