Thomas Riggins

The New York Times headlines today show that you can't teach an old dog new tricks. "Bush Insists Iran Remains a Threat Despite Arms Data."

What has he learned from his own intelligence agencies (16 of them!) after they told him the best intelligence they have is that Iran abandoned a bomb program four years ago [if they had one in the first place].

The Times reports that by not having a bomb program Bush thinks "the new assessment underscored the need to intensify international efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon." Whom the gods would destroy they first make mad.

Bush also said that Iran can't be trusted to even get the "scientific knowledge" involved with peaceful uses of nuclear energy. The way Bush thinks about science he must believe you can just keep people ignorant by political fiat. Greenhouse gases! What are they?

So we have to be ready to confront Iran if they are building a weapon, and we have to be ready to confront Iran if they are not building a weapon. If Congress want's to save the world from another disaster it better put impeachment on the table, and pronto.
