By the end of 2009, the US government will have authorized about $750 billion to be spent on the war. Prominent economists Linda Bilmes and Joseph Stiglitz estimate that the war will cost taxpayers and the next generation of taxpayers more than $3 trillion, a conservative estimate.

It's strange to think that Stiglitz used to work for the World Bank, one of the most oppressive and reactionary institutions on the planet.
