Thirty-five writers on six of Comedy Central's major shows—some of the laugh network's most popular—say they want to organize into a union and join the Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW).
Writers from shows like The Mind of Mencia, The Sarah Silverman Show, Reno 911, and others are seeking union representation.
But writers at Comedy Central's two top shows, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report, have already won union representation at the Writers Guild of America East.
Obviously, union representation, and the good things that come with it, has been a positive thing for those shows. And one naturally expects the liberal writers at The Daily Show to be aligned with "big labor," but what about The Colbert Report?
Shouldn't a right-wing ideologue like Colbert have resisted allowing his writers to join the Writers Guild? Or does he secretly believe that union representation has helped his writers become funnier?
Is this another case of the hypocritical Republican who hates all the good things the left has brought to America – civil rights and liberties, unions, government funded programs – but can't live without them?

ReplyDeleteI guess that I missed something? Unions are good? In the city where I live there used to be a lot of union jobs promising job security but the unions took the money and ran when crunch time came and now the only jobs that this town wants are non-union jobs.

Let's not be stupid here. The Colbert character on the show is a send-off of Bill O. Colbert is anything but a right-wing republican. I agree with the first poster ... not funny either way.
